Come see the modified 102 running in our factory in Neuwied, Germany. Place an order for a 102 hump modification by August of 2010 and we will deduct your travel expense for up to two people from your order. The tower on the 102 machine, sometimes referred to as the "hump", is where the side flaps are folded and the adhesive is applied. In this modification these sections are removed along with the hump to eliminate the changes in web direction.
The existing score bridge and side flap folding tools are utilized with this modification. An extrusion adhesive system for the side flaps (if not already installed) is required to replace the older style roller type gum box. This modification also requires a rotary die cutting section instead of the older wing knives.
The advantages of this modification
- flat and straight web travel with no changes in direction (90 and 180 degree turns) which can lead to improved productivity, window patch application and envelope quality depending upon the type of products you produce
- machine footprint remains the same
- new differential gear box for the side cutting section that is adjustable on the fly
- utilizes standard score rollers
- working plane now at operator level for ease in adjusting and creating a safer environment without a stepping stool
This modification was developed by W+D engineers as part of our Technical Improvement Program (TIP) based on customer input and is fully supported by W+D. The design process addressed every cost aspect of the modification and the result is a price that met the target established by our customers.
W+D 102 machines with serial numbers M10938 and up are eligible for this modification. Older machines need to be treated on a machine by machine basis.
